As a Naib Subedar, Bana Singh led a daring assault during Operation Rajiv in June 1987 and captured a heavily fortified enemy post at extreme altitude in the Siachen Glacier. Following the victory, the captured position was renamed Bana Post in his honour. For his extraordinary courage he was awarded the Param Vir Chakra, India's highest gallantry award.
